If possible, switch the boiler off ahead of time so it has cooled down before we arrive — that way we can get started right away. Make sure the technician has clear access to every part of the heating system (boiler, flue, gas pipework), and remove anything from the work area that could get dirty or damaged during cleaning. If you have a pet, it is best to keep it in another room while we work.
A gas boiler should be serviced once a year, ideally before the heating season starts. Manufacturers usually tie the warranty to regular servicing, and housing associations often require it by contract. A clean boiler burns less gas, so a service typically pays for itself.

No. Construction, repair and maintenance of a gas installation may only be carried out by a specialist holding a certificate of competence. Work done without one is illegal, insurance may refuse to cover damage, and the appliance can become dangerous. We hold every permit required.
